About the Road Editor

Information about streets and freeways contained within the base map data might sometimes be out of date, absent, or otherwise inaccurate. Speed limits or vehicle restrictions might change, and roads might be closed permanently or temporarily to accommodate repair work or street events.

Speed limit data is used to trigger speed-related notifications, such as Speeding Against Speed Limit InSight alerts or speed alerts in Navigation. If this data is out of date, it is possible for vehicles traveling below a street's posted speed limit to be incorrectly reported as speeding, or for vehicles traveling above a street's posted speed limit to remain unreported.

Data related to road closures and vehicle restrictions (such as vehicle dimensions, vehicle types, or hazmat loads carried) is used when calculating routes in the Verizon Connect platform and in Navigation. If this data is out of date, the resulting routes might lead vehicles along roads that they are not allowed to drive through.

To avoid all these issues, the road editor can be used to edit a street's details.

Speed limit data is not used for calculating routes.

Road edits affect events in the future only. Speeding events that appear in reports use the speed limit at the time that the speeding occurred. If a speed limit is changed as part of a road edit after a speeding event, new speeding reports show the speeding event before the speed limit change.

Access to Road Edits

Road closures and changes to speed limit or vehicle restrictions can have the following origins:

 

•You can receive road edits with your Verizon Connect map data. These are global road edits.
•You can make road edits yourself using the Road Edits screen, and view road edits that you or someone in your organization made, if you have the appropriate permissions.

Road closures display on the map with dashed, red lines and a closure icon . Other road edits, such as speed limit changes or changes to vehicle restrictions, display on the map with a dashed, blue line .

Anyone can view global road edits. To be able to make road edits yourself and view road edits that you or someone in your organization made, you must have the appropriate permissions set in your account.

If you have permission to create road edits, you can access the Road Edits tab, which includes the Create Edits tab and the Manage Edits tab. You cannot make any changes to global road edits, but if you click the closure icon on the map you can view the details of global road closures.

As an administrator complete the following steps to set permissions to view and make road edits:
 

1.From the Tasks section of the navigation bar choose Roles.
2.Select the role from the list.
3.Click the Rights tab.
4.Select the Show All Rights check box.
5.Scroll down to the Road Edits section, and set Can view or Can edit to “Allowed”.
6.Click Save.

The road editor feature is not supported in Internet Explorer version 8 or earlier.

To open the road editor, from the Main section of the navigation bar choose Map, then click Road Edits Fleet > Speed Editor menu button in the Map screen toolbar. The Road Edits tab opens. You can choose a different list view to change where the Road Edits tab is displayed.

The Create Edits tab lets you edit the speed and other attributes of streets or street segments that have not yet been edited.

The Manage Edits tab lets you view, filter, and edit the speed and other attributes of streets or street segments that have previously been edited and are highlighted in blue or red on the map. Road closures are highlighted in red. All other edits are highlighted in blue.
