Creating Shifts

A shift is made up of a certain number of standard and maximum hours that can be either fixed or variable. It can contain breaks and stem times. Shifts are used in shift patterns, which are assigned to drivers in order to work out whether the driver is available to work on a route, when building routes.

You can import a CSV file of shifts or create shifts manually.

To create a shift manually:

1.Click the Settings button, or click the highlighted scenario name, and then click the Scenario Settings option in the drop-down menu.

2.In the Scenario Settings dialog box, select the Shifts tab.

3.Click the Create button.
4.In the Shift dialog box, enter the relevant details:

oOverview - Define basic information about the shift, such as name, working hours, and maximum driving time.
oBreaks - Add breaks to the shift.
oCustom Properties - Add your own customer-defined data fields to the shift.

5.Click Save.

Breaks

The Breaks tab lets you add breaks to your shift.

To add a break, click Add Break. To remove a break, click the "x" next to the break that you want to remove.

For all breaks you can define whether they should start at a time that is relative to the shift's start time or not. To use this option select the check box next to "Breaks Relative To Start". The setting is applied to all breaks in this shift.

For each break you can add the following information:

Name - The name of the break.
Earliest Start Time - The earliest time when the break can start.
Latest Start Time - The latest time when the break can start.
Length - The duration of the break, in the format 30m or 1h 30m.

Custom Properties

The Custom Properties tab lets you add the following information:

Name - The name of a custom property. These arbitrary properties are not used for route optimization, but are added as columns to the Shifts list, and can be useful for sorting and filtering purposes. You could use these fields to specify additional data not included by default in Scenarios. These values can then be sorted in the grid by clicking the column header. Click the Add Property button to add a new Name and Value pair, or delete the content of an existing property pair and then click Save to remove them.
Value - The value of the custom property.
