Specifying Default Routing Behavior

Crossing the road to reach the job destination, driving across oncoming lanes of traffic in the process, presents a road hazard and increases the chances of an accident occurring: especially if your fleet includes long, heavy or slow vehicles. For this reason, you might want to prohibit these maneuvers on your routes, ensuring that vehicles turn directly off the road onto the stop. You might also want to specify whether routes generated by the optimizer will consider toll roads (roads that require a fee to be paid), or whether these roads will always be avoided.

To specify the default routing strategy to use for routes:

1.Click the logged account name in the upper right corner of the Verizon Connect platform interface to open the settings menu:

2.Click the Settings button. The Settings dialog box opens:

3.Click the Routing Defaults tab on the left menu:

4.From the Routing Behavior section, select one of the following values:
Same Side Routing - Vehicles are not permitted to cross the centerline of the road on a route, crossing oncoming lanes in the process. The optimizer ensures that the vehicle is on the correct side of the road to enter the stop location by turning off the road (that is, with the stop on the right side of the road in territories where vehicles drive on the right, such as the US, and vice versa for traffic territories in which vehicles drive on the left, such as the UK). If the stop is located on the other side of the road in a dead-end street, the vehicle is routed to the end of the street where it performs a u-turn. If the stop is ahead of an intersection and on the other side of the road, the vehicle is routed around the intersection and returns to the stop on the correct side of the road. If this option is enabled, the U-turns box option is automatically disabled (because u-turns must be permitted when using same side routing).
U-turns - Vehicles are allowed to cross oncoming lanes at the end of a route to reach a stop, but only if the additional time or distance required to execute an alternative maneuver (traveling around the block, for example) is deemed too high. This option is applicable only to the Trips and the Navigation mobile apps.
Toll Roads - Vehicles are allowed to travel on roads that require payment for passage (along a turnpike, for example). When not selected, the optimizer routes vehicles only along open roads that do not require a fee for passage. This option is applicable only to the Trips and the Navigation mobile apps.
Ferries - Determines whether routes are allowed to include ferry crossings (for example for inter-island travel). When disabled, routes are only permitted along standard land-based road networks with no intermediate travel on ferries.
Historic Traffic - Determines whether routing cost estimates take historical traffic data for the roads the routed vehicle travels along into account, for example to estimate that routes will take longer to complete during peak traffic hours on week days.
